The California Water Commission held a workshop on October 28th, 2021 via zoom to discuss groundwater trading (particularly regarding vulnerable water users) at the local and state level.
They went over basic information about trading as well as points regarding trading rules, protecting small farms, and the state’s potential role moving forward.
Please see the following slides:
The workshop included a brief presentation from the Kaweah Subbasin regarding their goals.
The proposed roles for the state regarding groundwater trading/SGMA are still forming. The following poll was done to determine what the majority feels should be prioritized in terms of these aforementioned roles.
This zoom meeting had well over 100 participants from all over the state, mainly the Central Valley, and all were encouraged to participate beforehand so that these results could be shared.
